Scribblers on the Road

Scribblers on the Road is coming to the Goldfields,
bringing Australia’s premier storytelling festival to Kalgoorlie.

Join us for a FREE Family Fun Day at the Goldfields Arts Centre on 5 April 2025 from 10 AM – 4 PM.  

Meet top local and national creatives, including DC and Marvel Comics writer Shane McCarthy, WA Premier’s Literary Award winner Sally Murphy, indigenous graphic novelist Brenton E. McKenna, and Picture Book of the Year awardee Zeno Sworder.
Don’t miss Scribblers LIVE from 1-2 PM on the main stage, where the creative line-up will engage in an entertaining variety show and storytelling challenge.

There’s something for everyone: creative workshops, an exclusive teen zone, storytelling, face painting, arts and crafts, aerial performances, food stalls and Book Doctors with recommendations.  Prepare for a day filled with inspiration, creativity and fun.

All you need to bring is your imagination—we’ll take care of the rest!

Scribblers on the Road heads to South Hedland in the Pilbara on 14 June 2025.

Odyssea

Renowned Australian artists will converge on Port Hedland as part of a new major music and arts event encompassing six days of entertainment. The Town of Port Hedland is proud to launch Odyssea Hedland Music and Arts Journey, bringing Australia’s most prolific artists and national treasures to the Civic Centre Gardens from Friday 18 - Sunday 27 August 2023.

Brenton E. McKenna, is a respected Yawuru artist. One of the world’s most renowned First Nations graphic novelists, his works inspire Indigenous voices in the world of graphic novels. He has also gained recognition for his popular weekly comic strip, Old Champ, in The West Australian.

From Batman: Legends of the Dark, Star Wars, Deadpool Team-Up, to Transformers, internationally acclaimed writer for DC and Marvel Comics, Shane McCarthy, has left an indelible mark on the comic world.

Sally Murphy

With more than 50 children’s books to her name, local author Sally Murphy, OAM, is the proud recipient of the Queensland Premier’s Literary Award and the WA Premier’s Literary Award in the children’s book category.

Zeno Sworder

Melbourne

Zeno Sworder is an award-winning writer and illustrator, winning the prestigious Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Picture Book of the Year Award for his unique storytelling and stunning illustrations.

Scribblers on the Road 2025: Be part of our Family Fun Days

We’ll be hosting another free Family Fun Day in South Hedland in June, featuring performances, presentations, activations and workshops with our Scribblers Creative Stars together with local performers, authors, artists and storytellers.

We have several opportunities for emerging and established creatives and storytellers to be part of the line-up at the following events:

South Hedland Family Fun Day: Saturday 14 June 2025 at JD Hardie Community Centre.

We’re heading to the Pilbara for the second year to share an amazing day full of free entertainment, workshops, storytelling, art & craft, prizes and a community BBQ.
